The ad shows a man (and dog) emerging from the rubble driving his Chevy Silverado, in what appears to be a post-apocalyptic landscape. As the man nears a clearance, he drives past what appears to be a bunch of blown up cars, a giant robots head, and a spaceship.
He then meets up with his pals – who are all driving Chevy’s, to learn the news that Dave, his friend, was not so lucky… Because he was driving a Ford…
The message is clear, and it’s unsurprising that Ford have actually tried to have the advert pulled before it’s broadcast to millions on tonights Super Bowl, during their whopping $7 million slot.
Ford have sent both GM and NBC cease-and-desist letters, but GM’s Global Chief Marketing Officer, Joel Ewanick, stated in a press release:
“We can wait until the world ends, and if we need to, we will apologize. In the meantime, people who are really worried about the Mayan calendar coming true should buy a Silverado right away.”
