Lynx’s (Unilever) “The Cleaner You Are, The Dirtier You Get” campaign has been banned both in online and outdoor media, with claims that it is degrading and objectifies women as well as being placed by schools where children could see them.
The ad was created by BBH and ran during June, it received 113 complaints.
The digital campaign created by TMW and featuring UK glamour model Lucy Pinder received 15 complaints. The videos featured Miss Pinder jogging, stripping wallpaper, and eating whipped cream off her finger.
The advert ends with asking the audience to fill the blanks in the following statement: “Lucy Pinder ——ing makes me prematurely perspire’.
Unilever hit out over the ban, claiming that the campaign was not degrading to Lucy Pinder, as she was portrayed as “confident and in control”, saying that the campaign was not “overly sexual” nor was it “indecent”.
“It also took issue with the way the campaign was targeted in digital media, ruling that the ads were irresponsibly put in front of children, for whom they were not suitable.”
