This great advert was first broadcast during the Superbowl of 2011 and is one of my personal favourites.
The ad shows a young, suburban (I’m guessing pre-evil) Darth Vader trying to get a grasp of his recently acquired powers by attempting to use the force on a number of items around the house, including the dog.
We come to an end after “Darth’s” father pulls the new 2012 Volkswagen Passat into the drive, prompting Little Darth to run outside and attempt to control it, showing him shocked whilst the car is remotely locked by Dad watching from the Kitchen.
I think this is an awesome way for Volkswagen to advertise their new family car, as it appeals to their target audience of those with young families and having a spot on the Superbowl is a sure way to catch our attention, definitely worth the expense through the buzz created.
The ad received over 22 million hits within a week of it’s launch and now has 44 million on YouTube, with over 100,000 likes. Deutsch LA must be extremely proud.
